Observations

- In the field of water purification, nitrates are often referred to as ‘nitrate nitrogen’, nitrites as ‘nitrous nitrogen’ and ammonia as ‘ammonia nitrogen’, however, concentrations are generally expressed as NO3 for nitrates, NO2 for nitrites and NH3 for ammonia.
- HYDROCHECK MONOTEST kits (which can be purchased directly) require the use of a photometer. Although they cost more per analysis than SPECTRATESTs, MONOTESTs are becoming increasingly popular due to their high accuracy, reliability and safety of use. Furthermore, with the MONOTESTs, analysis is simpler, as the samples to be analyzed are introduced into optical glass tubes containing the pre-dosed reagents and can be used directly in any photometer capable of accepting 16 mm diameter round tubes, such as Hydrocheck or Spectronic Genesys spectrophotometers.
The SPECTRATEST kits, which offer a significantly lower cost per analysis, are recommended when it is necessary to perform many analyses, to be repeated frequently. As far as the photometer is concerned, it is preferable to use a spectrophotometer such as the Hydrocheck or Spectronic Genesys, as filter photometers give less reliable and accurate results and always require the construction of a calibration curve.
